The National Research Council of Canada’s (NRC) Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) offers both technical support and financial assistance to innovative Canadian SMEs.

Technical Support

NRC’s Industrial Technology Advisors (ITAs) guide clients through every stage of the innovation process, from initial concept to commercialization. They provide technical and business advice and refer clients to other resources or innovation services as needed.

Financial Assistance

IRAP provides financial support that varies from project to project, but is generally repayable based on the company’s results with the technology. IRAP can fund up to 80% of research-related salaries and 50% of subcontracting costs. Usually, the total government funding (IRAP, SR&ED, etc.) for a project cannot exceed 75% of the total costs.

In addition to support technological innovation, the NRC offers IRAP-AI and IRAP-Clean Technologies.

Note : Like all grant programs, IRAP can be terminated at any time once its budget is exhausted.
